Printing it
- Type your size above, then download the PDF.
- Print at 100% — never “fit to page”, or every measurement comes out wrong.
- Too big for the paper? Pick your paper size and leave Fit the pieces to the page ticked: each piece gets its own place on a sheet and the PDF comes out with every page in it, nothing cut in half and nothing to tape.
How to put it together
These pictures are the cut-corner octagon box itself, not a generic diagram — change the measurements above and the template changes, but the three steps never do.
-
Cut the solid lines
Every solid line is a cut. Do the inside shapes first, while the sheet is still whole and easy to hold.
-
Score every dashed line
Dashed lines are folds. Score each one first — an empty ballpoint against a ruler — or the card cracks along the outside of the bend.
-
Fold, glue and hold
Score every dashed line. Glue the wall strip round the base, creasing it at all eight corners, fold the tabs in under the base and glue. Make the lid the same way: it is already one board and the clearance bigger.
Glue: a glue stick for paper, white PVA on card — hold each seam thirty seconds, and let it dry before you use it.
Questions about the cut-corner octagon box
How big are the corner cuts?
You set how far each cut runs along the side: 22 mm by default, on a box 130 × 85 mm. A cut is at least 6 mm, so it shows, and short enough to leave 12 mm of every side straight; the page says if it has moved it.
Is it the same as the octagonal box?
No. The polygonal box makes a regular octagon, all eight sides equal. This one is a rectangle with its corners cut, so it can be long and narrow, the shape of a scarf or a bar of soap.
How many sheets does it print on?
The base and lid each fit A4 or US Letter. The wall strips are longer than the paper at the default 130 × 85 × 40 mm box, so they print in sections that glue end to end, each seam on a straight side, never on a corner.
