The same idea, done in your browser
templatemaker.nl has been the free box template site since 2007: pick a shape, type the measurements, download a PDF. This site works the same way, with one structural difference. templatemaker.nl draws your template on its server, so your measurements travel there and a file comes back. Here the drawing is worked out by your own browser, as you type, and nothing leaves your computer — including any picture you put on the box.
What you get here that you may be missing
- A 3D fold preview. Press 3D box and watch the printed sheet fold up from flat to finished. On most boxes it folds crease by crease and shows where a glue tab misses or a lid will not close, before you print anything.
- Your own design on the box. Add a logo, photo or pattern, drag it onto the drawing and it prints on the finished box, trimmed to the cut lines. How that works.
- Paper you actually own. The page opens on A4 or US Letter, and a box too big for it is shared over several sheets, each piece whole, or you are told what to change. A piece is never cut across two pages.
- Cutting machines. 12 × 12 and 12 × 24 inch mat sizes, SVG with cut and fold lines on separate layers, and DXF for Silhouette Studio. The Cricut guide.
- A 300 dpi PNG alongside PDF, SVG and DXF, for Canva and other design apps. The Canva guide.
Moving your measurements across
Type the same length, width and height you used before. The two sites agree where they have been compared: the shallow box here reproduces templatemaker.nl's sheet to the millimetre for the same inputs. Card thickness is typed in millimetres, and the tucks and slits are sized from it, so measure your card rather than guessing.
Where templatemaker.nl is still the right choice
It has a long track record and shapes of its own that this site does not have. If it already makes the box you need, keep using it. If you want to see the box fold before you print, put a design on it, or keep everything on your own computer, try the box maker above: it is the same measurements, typed into a different tool.
Questions
- Is this the same as templatemaker.nl?
- No. It is a separate site with no connection to templatemaker.nl. Both make free cut-and-fold templates from the measurements you type; the differences are in what happens around the drawing, listed on this page.
- Will my sizes come out the same?
- For the same box they should. The shallow box here is checked against templatemaker.nl and reproduces its 23 × 25.45 cm sheet exactly for the same inputs, so you can carry your measurements across.
- Is it really free?
- Yes, for personal use: gifts, crafts, school projects and test samples. There is no account, no email and no watermark on your box. Packaging things you sell needs a commercial licence, which the licence page explains.
- Why does it matter that it runs in the browser?
- Nothing you type and no picture you add is sent anywhere, because there is no server drawing the file. The template appears as you type, and once the page has loaded it keeps working on a poor connection.
- When should I stay with templatemaker.nl?
- If it already has the exact shape you need and you are happy with it, there is no reason to move. It has been making templates since 2007, and some of its shapes are not here. Use whichever gets your box made.
templatemaker.nl is a separate site with no connection to this one. What is said about it here is from its own pages and from checks run against it, in October 2026.
