The kalash box template, flat and folded

What this template is for
A box shaped like a kalash or matka pot: a round belly, a narrow neck and a flared rim, with a matching lid. Wedding and griha pravesh favours, puja and Diwali sweets, mithai and dry fruit.
Also called kalash box · matka box · pot shaped box · kalash favour box — all the same shape, and this is it.

- Puja, Diwali and festival sweets
- Mithai and dry fruit gifts
- Self-help group and small seller packaging

Printing it
- Type your size above, then download the PDF.
- Print at 100% — never “fit to page”, or every measurement comes out wrong.
- Too big for the paper? Pick your paper size and leave Fit the pieces to the page ticked: each piece gets its own place on a sheet and the PDF comes out with every page in it, nothing cut in half and nothing to tape.
How to put it together
These pictures are the kalash box itself, not a generic diagram — change the measurements above and the template changes, but the steps never do. The names in capitals are the labels printed on the template.
-
Cut the solid lines
Every solid line is a cut. Do the inside shapes first, while the sheet is still whole and easy to hold.
-
Score every dashed line
Dashed lines are folds. Score each one first — an empty ballpoint against a ruler — or the card cracks along the outside of the bend.
-
Step by step
- Cut out the BASE, the BOX WALL, and the LID and LID WALL if you set a lid.
- Crease the wall at the two corners of the rim.
- Glue the wall strip round the BASE, curving it round the belly and in round the neck.
- Fold the tabs in, set the base on them and glue.
- Make the lid the same way.
Glue: a glue stick for paper, white PVA on card — hold each seam thirty seconds, and let it dry before you use it.
Questions about the kalash box
Where does the wall fold?
Only at the two corners of the rim. Round the belly it curves, and in at the neck, which is rounded so the wall can bend.
What size is the default box?
A pot 90 mm across the belly and 109 mm tall, 35 mm deep with a 15 mm lid. It prints on two A4 or US Letter sheets.
How do I decorate it like a kalash?
Print it on red, gold or saffron card, or with your own pattern, and glue a paper mango-leaf crown and a coconut cut-out above the rim of the lid. Keep them clear of the lid wall.
