Printing it
- Type your size above, then download the PDF.
- Print at 100% — never “fit to page”, or every measurement comes out wrong.
- Too big for the paper? Pick your paper size and leave Fit the pieces to the page ticked: each piece gets its own place on a sheet and the PDF comes out with every page in it, nothing cut in half and nothing to tape.
How to put it together
These pictures are the hexagon drawer box itself, not a generic diagram — change the measurements above and the template changes, but the steps never do. The names in capitals are the labels printed on the template.
-
Cut the solid lines
Every solid line is a cut. Do the inside shapes first, while the sheet is still whole and easy to hold.
-
Score every dashed line
Dashed lines are folds. Score each one first — an empty ballpoint against a ruler — or the card cracks along the outside of the bend.
-
Step by step
- Cut out the drawer and the SLEEVE, and score every dashed line.
- Drawer: fold the two WALLs up from the FLOOR, then fold each END hexagon up.
- Fold the small flaps on the ends of the walls in and glue them inside the END hexagons.
- Sleeve: glue the (glue) tab behind its last panel to make a six-sided tube.
- Slide the drawer into the sleeve; push it from one end to open the other.
Glue: a glue stick for paper, white PVA on card — hold each seam thirty seconds, and let it dry before you use it.
Questions about the hexagon drawer box
How does the drawer fit the sleeve?
The drawer is drawn at the middle of the board, the side plus t/√3, and the sleeve one board thickness and the clearance (0.6 mm by default) bigger all round, so the drawer slides without rattling.
What size is the default box?
Sides of 25 mm, so the hexagon is 50 mm across its corners, and 100 mm long. Drawer and sleeve print together on one A4 or US Letter sheet, 188 × 257 mm.
How do the drawer ends stay on?
Each END hexagon folds up from the floor, and the small flaps on the two walls glue inside it. The flaps are cut at 45° where they meet the floor so they clear it once folded.
