How to put it together

These pictures are the diagonal cut box itself, not a generic diagram — change the measurements above and the template changes, but the three steps never do.

Cut the solid lines
Every solid line is a cut. Do the inside shapes first, while the sheet is still whole and easy to hold.
Score every dashed line
Dashed lines are folds. Score each one first — an empty ballpoint against a ruler — or the card cracks along the outside of the bend.
Fold, glue and hold
Score every dashed line. Fold the walls of the BASE up and glue each side wall's end tabs inside the front and back. Glue the two COLLAR halves into a ring, then glue it inside the base, its bottom on the floor, so it stands above the slanted edge all round. Make the LID the same way as the base and slide it down over the collar.

Glue: a glue stick for paper, white PVA on card — hold each seam thirty seconds, and let it dry before you use it.

Questions about the diagonal cut box

How does the lid stay on?

A collar is glued inside the base and stands 12 mm above the slanted edge all the way round. The lid is the collar plus a 0.6 mm clearance inside, so it slides down over the collar and rests on the base, and the outside looks like one block cut on the diagonal.

How steep is the cut?

You set the base height at the front and at the back: 15 mm and 50 mm on the default 75 mm cube. The back is at least 10 mm higher than the front so the cut slants, and low enough that the lid still covers the collar; the page says if it has moved them.

How many pieces are there?

Four: the base, the lid and the collar in two halves, so every piece fits an A4 or US Letter sheet. Each half of the collar is a straight panel and a side, and glues to the other half by its tab.
