The locking drawer box template, flat and folded
What this template is for
A drawer box that needs no glue in the drawer: double end walls lock into the floor, and two tongues ride in slits in the sleeve so the drawer stops instead of falling out, and clicks shut. Gifts, jewellery, chocolates, soap, cards and small keepsakes.
Also called locking drawer box · double wall drawer box · kraft drawer box · pull out drawer gift box — all the same shape, and this is it.

Printing it
- Type your size above, then download the PDF.
- Print at 100% — never “fit to page”, or every measurement comes out wrong.
- Too big for the paper? Pick your paper size and leave Fit the pieces to the page ticked: each piece gets its own place on a sheet and the PDF comes out with every page in it, nothing cut in half and nothing to tape.
How to put it together
These pictures are the locking drawer box itself, not a generic diagram — change the measurements above and the template changes, but the three steps never do.
-
Cut the solid lines
Every solid line is a cut. Do the inside shapes first, while the sheet is still whole and easy to hold.
-
Score every dashed line
Dashed lines are folds. Score each one first — an empty ballpoint against a ruler — or the card cracks along the outside of the bend.
-
Fold, glue and hold
Score every dashed line and cut the two slits and slots. Drawer: fold the side walls up and their corner flaps in, fold each end wall up, then over its top strip and down inside, pushing its two tabs into the slots in the floor. Leave the half-round tongues at the bottom of the side walls flat, sticking out. Sleeve: glue the tab under the far side to make a tube. Slide the drawer in from the back, pressing the tongues flat, until they pop out into the slits.
Glue: a glue stick for paper, white PVA on card — hold each seam thirty seconds, and let it dry before you use it.
Questions about the locking drawer box
How does the drawer stop?
A half-round tongue is cut into the bottom of each side wall near the back. When the wall folds up the tongue stays flat and sticks out sideways, and it runs in a slit along the bottom of the sleeve. The drawer opens as far as the slit is long, 55 mm by default, then stops. Closed, the tongue clicks into a round hole at the end of the slit.
Does the drawer need glue?
No. Each end wall is double: it folds over a narrow top strip and down inside, and two tabs push into slots in the floor. The side walls’ corner flaps are trapped between the two layers. Only the sleeve has one glued seam.
Can I take the drawer out?
Yes. Pull it to the stop, press the two tongues flat against the drawer and slide it out. Put it back the same way, from the back of the sleeve. At the default size, a drawer 95 × 55 × 25 mm, the drawer and the sleeve each fit an A4 or US Letter sheet.
