Printing it

Print at 100% — never “fit to page”, or every measurement comes out wrong.

How to put it together

These pictures are the car box itself, not a generic diagram — change the measurements above and the template changes, but the steps never do. The names in capitals are the labels printed on the template.

Cut the solid lines
Every solid line is a cut. Do the inside shapes first, while the sheet is still whole and easy to hold.
Score every dashed line
Dashed lines are folds. Score each one first — an empty ballpoint against a ruler — or the card cracks along the outside of the bend.
Step by step
1. Cut out the BASE, the BOX WALL, and the LID and LID WALL if you set a lid.
2. Crease the wall at the foot of each bumper.
3. Glue the wall strip round the BASE, curving it over the boot, the roof and the bonnet and round the two wheels.
4. Fold the tabs in, set the base on them and glue.
5. Make the lid the same way.

Glue: a glue stick for paper, white PVA on card — hold each seam thirty seconds, and let it dry before you use it.

Questions about the car box

Which way does it open?

The box lies on its side: the base and the lid are the car seen from the side, and the depth of the box is the car’s width. Lift the lid off one side.

Where does the wall fold?

Only at the foot of each bumper. Over the boot, roof and bonnet and round the two wheels it curves; the joins where the wheels meet the body are rounded 4 mm or more.

What size is the default box?

A car 150 mm long and about 64 mm tall to the bottom of the wheels, 40 mm deep with a 15 mm lid. It prints on two A4 or US Letter sheets.
