The pocketfold invitation template, flat and folded

What this template is for
The wedding invitation folder: a panel for the invitation card and a pocket for the RSVP and details cards, as a bifold or a trifold with a flap, sized from your card. Weddings, engagements and events.

Printing it
- Type your size above, then download the PDF.
- Print at 100% — never “fit to page”, or every measurement comes out wrong.
- Too big for the paper? Pick your paper size and leave Fit the pieces to the page ticked: each piece gets its own place on a sheet and the PDF comes out with every page in it, nothing cut in half and nothing to tape.
How to put it together
These pictures are the pocketfold invitation itself, not a generic diagram — change the measurements above and the template changes, but the steps never do. The names in capitals are the labels printed on the template.
-
Cut the solid lines
Every solid line is a cut. Do the inside shapes first, while the sheet is still whole and easy to hold.
-
Score every dashed line
Dashed lines are folds. Score each one first — an empty ballpoint against a ruler — or the card cracks along the outside of the bend.
-
Step by step
- Cut the outline and the thumb notch, and crease every dashed line.
- Fold the POCKET up onto the inside of the POCKET SIDE panel.
- Fold its two end tabs back behind it and glue them to the panel.
- Glue the invitation card on the INVITATION panel and slip the reply and detail cards in the pocket.
- Fold it shut: a trifold folds the FLAP over the invitation first, then the pocket panel over both.
Glue: a glue stick for paper, white PVA on card — hold each seam thirty seconds, and let it dry before you use it.
Questions about the pocketfold invitation
What size do I need?
Type the size of the invitation card. Each panel is that card plus a 3 mm margin all round, so the default 4 × 6 inch card (102 × 152 mm) makes 108 × 158 mm panels, and the flat sheet is 226 × 198 mm: it prints on A4 or US Letter. A 5 × 7 inch trifold is 407 × 224 mm and needs A3, tabloid or 12 × 12 inch card.
Bifold or trifold?
A bifold (2 panels) opens like a book: the invitation on the left, the pocket on the right. A trifold (3 panels) adds a FLAP on the left that folds over the invitation; it is drawn 2 mm narrower than a panel so it closes inside the edges, and the panel it closes over has 2 mm of room in the fold for the cards.
How deep is the pocket?
The default pocket is 40 mm deep, enough to hold RSVP and detail cards upright with their tops showing. It can be up to six tenths of the panel; deeper than that it hides the invitation. The thumb notch in its top edge lets the cards slide out.
