The gift bow template, flat and folded
What this template is for
A full, looped paper bow for the top of a present: three tiers of figure-of-eight loops and a ring in the middle, sized to the width you want. Diwali, Christmas, birthday and wedding gifts, in card or patterned paper.

Printing it
- Type your size above, then download the PDF.
- Print at 100% — never “fit to page”, or every measurement comes out wrong.
- Too big for the paper? Pick your paper size and leave Fit the pieces to the page ticked: each piece gets its own place on a sheet and the PDF comes out with every page in it, nothing cut in half and nothing to tape.
How to put it together
These pictures are the gift bow itself, not a generic diagram — change the measurements above and the template changes, but the three steps never do.
-
Cut the solid lines
Every solid line is a cut. Do the inside shapes first, while the sheet is still whole and easy to hold.
-
Try the first one
There is nothing to fold. Before you cut a stack, try the first one on what it is for and change the size above if it needs it.
-
Join and hold
Cut out the strips. Take each strip, bring one end round to the middle, where MIDDLE is printed, and glue it there, then the other end the same way, so it makes two loops. Glue the three TIER 1 loops on the BASE in a star, then the TIER 2 loops on top turned between them, then TIER 3. Roll the RING, glue its ends, and glue it in the middle.
Glue: a glue stick for paper, white PVA on card — hold each seam thirty seconds, and let it dry before you use it.
Questions about the gift bow
- How long are the strips?
- Twice the bow width for the bottom tier, then four fifths and three fifths of that for the two tiers above. A 100 mm bow has three strips of 200 mm, three of 160 mm and two of 120 mm. Folded into two loops, a strip spans about half its own length, so the bottom tier reaches the full width.
- How wide should the strips be?
- About 15 mm for a 100 mm bow. Wider than a third of the bow, the loops stand on each other and the bow goes lumpy, so the tool narrows them and says so.
- Which paper works best?
- Thin card or patterned paper, 120–160 gsm. Printer paper works but the loops sag; card over 250 gsm cracks where the loops bend. Print on both sides, or use paper coloured on both sides, as the loops show their inside.
Print your own design on it
Add a logo, photo or pattern in the panel on the left and drag it onto the gift bow. It is trimmed to the cut outline, embedded properly in the PDF, and never leaves your computer — most free template sites hand you the outline and stop there. How printing your own design works.
