The lotus diya holder template, flat and folded
What this template is for
A lotus flower that stands round a tea light: a base the light sits on and pointed petals that fold up round it, in one or two layers. Diwali and Deepavali tables, puja thalis, weddings and mandap decor.
Also called diya holder · lotus tea light holder · paper lotus · diwali diya decoration — all the same shape, and this is it.

Printing it
- Type your size above, then download the PDF.
- Print at 100% — never “fit to page”, or every measurement comes out wrong.
- Too big for the paper? Pick your paper size and leave Fit the pieces to the page ticked: each piece gets its own place on a sheet and the PDF comes out with every page in it, nothing cut in half and nothing to tape.
How to put it together
These pictures are the lotus diya holder itself, not a generic diagram — change the measurements above and the template changes, but the three steps never do.
-
Cut the solid lines
Every solid line is a cut. Do the inside shapes first, while the sheet is still whole and easy to hold.
-
Score every dashed line
Dashed lines are folds. Score each one first — an empty ballpoint against a ruler — or the card cracks along the outside of the bend.
-
Fold, glue and hold
Score the line under every petal. Fold each petal up and curl its tip out a little between your fingers. For two layers, glue the base of the UPPER LAYER in the middle of the LOWER LAYER, turned so its petals sit between the lower ones. Use a battery LED tea light: a flame in a paper flower can set it alight.
Glue: a glue stick for paper, white PVA on card — hold each seam thirty seconds, and let it dry before you use it.
Questions about the lotus diya holder
- Can I use a real candle in it?
- Use a battery LED tea light. The petals stand close round the light, and paper or card near a flame can catch fire. An LED light looks the same and is safe to leave on.
- What size is the base?
- The base is a polygon whose inner circle is the tea light plus 2 mm, so the light sits snugly without being squeezed. A standard 38 mm tea light gets a 40 mm base; set the diameter for a larger or smaller light.
- How do the two layers go together?
- The lower layer’s petals are a quarter taller. Glue the upper layer’s base on the lower one, turned half a petal so the upper petals sit in the gaps. At the default size, 6 petals of 35 mm, each layer is about 110 mm across and both print on one A4 or US Letter sheet.
Print your own design on it
Add a logo, photo or pattern in the panel on the left and drag it onto the lotus diya holder. It is trimmed to the cut outline, embedded properly in the PDF, and never leaves your computer — most free template sites hand you the outline and stop there. How printing your own design works.
