Printing it
- Type your size above, then download the PDF.
- Print at 100% — never “fit to page”, or every measurement comes out wrong.
- Too big for the paper? Pick your paper size and leave Fit the pieces to the page ticked: each piece gets its own place on a sheet and the PDF comes out with every page in it, nothing cut in half and nothing to tape.
How to put it together
These pictures are the spiral paper rose itself, not a generic diagram — change the measurements above and the template changes, but the three steps never do.
-
Cut the solid lines
Every solid line is a cut. Do the inside shapes first, while the sheet is still whole and easy to hold.
-
Try the first one
There is nothing to fold. Before you cut a stack, try the first one on what it is for and change the size above if it needs it.
-
Join and hold
Cut round the outline and along the spiral to the middle. Start at START and roll the strip tightly round itself, printed side in, keeping the bottom edge level. When you reach the middle, let the roll loosen to open the petals, then put hot glue or tacky glue on BASE and press the rose down on it until it holds.
Glue: a glue stick for paper, white PVA on card — hold each seam thirty seconds, and let it dry before you use it.
Questions about the spiral paper rose
- How big is the finished rose?
- About a third of the circle. The default 150 mm circle with three turns makes a rose roughly 50 mm across and 19 mm tall, which is how wide the strip is: the circle’s radius less the base, shared over the turns.
- Which paper works best?
- Paper or thin card, 120 to 180 gsm. Printer paper rolls easily but the petals are floppy; card over 250 gsm cracks as it coils. Coloured card is easiest, as the back of the strip shows on the petals.
- How deep can the scallops be?
- Up to a third of the strip. Deeper, the strip is too narrow between two scallops and tears as you roll it, so the tool makes them shallower and says so. Shorter petals give a tighter, more rose-like flower; longer ones look more like a peony.
Print your own design on it
Add a logo, photo or pattern in the panel on the left and drag it onto the spiral paper rose. It is trimmed to the cut outline, embedded properly in the PDF, and never leaves your computer — most free template sites hand you the outline and stop there. How printing your own design works.
