The hinged lid box template, flat and folded
What this template is for
A keepsake box in one piece whose lid is hinged at the back and has a lip on three sides that closes down over the walls. Opens and closes without coming off. Keepsakes, stationery, photos, gift sets and memory boxes.
Also called hinged box · keepsake box · box with attached lid · hinged gift box — all the same shape, and this is it.

Printing it
- Type your size above, then download the PDF.
- Print at 100% — never “fit to page”, or every measurement comes out wrong.
- Too big for the paper? Pick your paper size and leave Fit the pieces to the page ticked: each piece gets its own place on a sheet and the PDF comes out with every page in it, nothing cut in half and nothing to tape.
How to put it together
These pictures are the hinged lid box itself, not a generic diagram — change the measurements above and the template changes, but the three steps never do.
-
Cut the solid lines
Every solid line is a cut. Do the inside shapes first, while the sheet is still whole and easy to hold.
-
Score every dashed line
Dashed lines are folds. Score each one first — an empty ballpoint against a ruler — or the card cracks along the outside of the bend.
-
Fold, glue and hold
Score every dashed line. Fold the four walls up and glue the corner tabs on the FRONT and BACK inside the SIDE walls. Fold the LID's side lips and front lip down and glue the two tabs on the front lip inside the side lips. Fold the lid over at the hinge on top of the back wall. It closes with its lips outside the walls.
Glue: a glue stick for paper, white PVA on card — hold each seam thirty seconds, and let the box dry standing up.
Questions about the hinged lid box
- How is the lid joined on?
- It is the same sheet: the lid folds over from the top edge of the back wall, so it opens and closes without coming off.
- How much bigger is the lid?
- One board plus the clearance you set beyond the box’s outside, on the front and on both sides, so its lips close over the walls.
- Will it print on one sheet?
- Yes. At the size it opens with, 110 × 70 × 40 mm, it fits one A4 or US Letter sheet.
Print your own design on it
Add a logo, photo or pattern in the panel on the left and drag it onto the hinged lid box. It is trimmed to the cut outline, embedded properly in the PDF, and never leaves your computer — most free template sites hand you the outline and stop there. How printing your own design works.
