Low Poly Vase Template

A faceted vase of triangles: a base, a belly, a neck and a lip, each turned half a step from the last so every band is a zigzag of flat faces. Build it round a jar of water for fresh flowers, or stand dried ones straight in it.

Put a logo, photo or pattern straight onto the box — most free template sites give you the outline and stop there. Drag it where you want it; it is trimmed to the cut lines so nothing prints off the card, and it stays in your browser.

Printing it

  1. Type your size above, then download the PDF.
  2. Print at 100% — never “fit to page”, or every measurement comes out wrong.
  3. Too big for the paper? Pick your paper size and leave Fit the pieces to the page ticked: each piece gets its own place on a sheet and the PDF comes out with every page in it, nothing cut in half and nothing to tape.

How to put it together

These pictures are the low-poly vase itself, not a generic diagram — change the measurements above and the template changes, but the three steps never do.

  1. Cut the solid lines

Every solid line is a cut. Do the inside shapes first, while the sheet is still whole and easy to hold.

  2. Score every dashed line

Dashed lines are folds. Score each one first — an empty ballpoint against a ruler — or the card cracks along the outside of the bend.

  3. LOWER BAND 1LOWER BAND 2MIDDLE BAND 1MIDDLE BAND 2UPPER BANDBASE

    Fold, glue and hold

Crease every line — the triangles alternate, so the creases do too. Glue each band into a ring with its end tab. Fold the BASE tabs up and glue them inside the LOWER BAND. Then fold the tabs along the top of the lower band in, slide the MIDDLE BAND over them and glue; do the same with the UPPER BAND. For fresh flowers, put a jar inside before you glue the upper band on — the neck is narrower than the jar.

Glue: a glue stick for paper, white PVA on card — hold each seam thirty seconds, and let the box dry standing up.

Questions about the low-poly vase

Can it hold water?
Not on its own — it is paper. Stand a glass jar or bottle of water inside it. The neck is narrower than the belly, so put the jar in before you glue the upper band on, and make the belly at least a few millimetres wider than the jar.
Why is it made of triangles?
Each ring of corners is turned half a step from the one below, so every band between two rings is a zigzag of flat triangles. That is what gives the low-poly look, and it is why the vase folds from flat card with no curved surfaces at all.
Will it print at home?
Yes. At the size it opens with — 190 mm tall, 110 mm across the belly, seven sides — it prints on three A4 or US Letter sheets: the three bands (the lower and middle ones in two sections each) and the base.
Can I change the shape?
Yes. Base, belly, neck and lip each have their own diameter, and the belly and neck their own heights, so it can be a bottle, a bowl, an urn or a straight pot. Every band is kept at least 12 mm tall, and the page says so if a setting had to move.

Print your own design on it

Add a logo, photo or pattern in the panel on the left and drag it onto the low-poly vase. It is trimmed to the cut outline, embedded properly in the PDF, and never leaves your computer — most free template sites hand you the outline and stop there. How printing your own design works.
