The paper house template, flat and folded
What this template is for
A Christmas-village paper house to stand over an LED tea light: four walls with a door and paned windows cut out, gables with a round window, and a roof that folds along its ridge. Mantelpiece villages, window sills, table centres and gift boxes.

Printing it
- Type your size above, then download the PDF.
- Print at 100% — never “fit to page”, or every measurement comes out wrong.
- Too big for the paper? Pick your paper size and leave Fit the pieces to the page ticked: each piece gets its own place on a sheet and the PDF comes out with every page in it, nothing cut in half and nothing to tape.
How to put it together
These pictures are the paper house itself, not a generic diagram — change the measurements above and the template changes, but the three steps never do.
-
Cut the solid lines
Every solid line is a cut. Do the inside shapes first, while the sheet is still whole and easy to hold.
-
Score every dashed line
Dashed lines are folds. Score each one first — an empty ballpoint against a ruler — or the card cracks along the outside of the bend.
-
Fold, glue and hold
Cut out the walls, the roof and every window and door first. Crease every dashed line. Glue the end tab inside the FRONT to make a ring of walls. Fold the flaps along the top of the FRONT and BACK in, and the tabs on the gable slopes. Fold the ROOF along its ridge, set it on the gables and glue it to the flaps and tabs. Stand it over a battery LED tea light: a flame can set paper alight.
Glue: a glue stick for paper, white PVA on card — hold each seam thirty seconds, and let it dry before you use it.
Questions about the paper house
- What size is the default house?
- A 70 mm front, 50 mm deep and 55 mm to the eaves, with a 25 mm roof on top and a 5 mm overhang all round. The walls and the roof print on one A4 or US Letter sheet turned landscape. Make several in different sizes for a village street.
- Can I put a candle inside?
- Use a battery LED tea light. The house is open at the bottom, so it stands over the light and the windows glow. A real flame inside paper can set it alight, so do not use one.
- How are the windows made?
- Each window is four panes with 1.5 mm bars between them, the door is arched and stands on a 4 mm sill, and each gable has a round window. Every opening keeps at least 4 mm of card to every edge and fold, and on a small house the windows that would crowd the door are left out. Set Door and windows to 0 for plain walls to decorate yourself.
Print your own design on it
Add a logo, photo or pattern in the panel on the left and drag it onto the paper house. It is trimmed to the cut outline, embedded properly in the PDF, and never leaves your computer — most free template sites hand you the outline and stop there. How printing your own design works.
