How do I get the money out?

Open the bottom. Both ends close with a tuck flap rather than glue, so the base opens and closes as often as you like. The coin slot is in the top lid, and the top tucks shut too, so either end will do.

How big should the slot be?

A little longer than the biggest coin you will use, and wider than its thickness. The 32 × 4 mm it opens with takes most coins in circulation, including the ₹10, the euro and the US quarter. For folded notes, make it longer and a few millimetres wider.

Will it print on one sheet?

Yes, at the size it opens with: 55 × 45 × 80 mm comes to about 217 × 197 mm, which fits A4 turned sideways. A taller box needs A3, or use Make it smaller to fit.

Can children decorate it?

Yes. Add a picture in the tool and drag it onto the front panel, or print it plain and let them draw on it. Cut the slot out before folding: it is the one cut that is hard to make once the box is a box.

Print at 100% — never “fit to page”, or every measurement comes out wrong.
Too big for the paper? Pick your paper size and leave Fit the pieces to the page ticked: each piece gets its own place on a sheet and the PDF comes out with every page in it, nothing cut in half and nothing to tape.

How to put it together

These pictures are the money box itself, not a generic diagram — change the measurements above and the template changes, but the three steps never do.

Cut the solid lines
Every solid line is a cut. Do the inside shapes first, while the sheet is still whole and easy to hold.
Score every dashed line
Dashed lines are folds. Score each one first — an empty ballpoint against a ruler — or the card cracks along the outside of the bend.
Fold, glue and hold
Cut the slot out first. Glue the side seam to make a tube, fold the dust flaps in and tuck both lids shut. Open the bottom when it is time to count.

Glue: a glue stick for paper, white PVA on card — hold each seam thirty seconds, and let the box dry standing up.
